This September, the New Rochelle Public Library (NRPL) is challenging the community to help reach an ambitious goal: 700 new library card sign-ups during Library Card Sign-Up Month!
A library card is your ticket to a world of free resources, experiences and opportunities—and there’s never been a better time to get one. Whether you’re looking for your next great read, exploring a new hobby, preparing for an exam, searching for a job or simply looking for something fun to do, NRPL has something for everyone.
“Today’s library card is so much more than a card for checking out books,” said Eugenia Schatoff, Executive Director of the New Rochelle Public Library. “It opens the door to resources, experiences and opportunities for everyone—from eBooks and technology to programs, learning and cultural experiences. We’re excited to challenge New Rochelle to help us welcome 700 new cardholders this September and discover all that the New Rochelle Public Library has to offer.”

A New Rochelle Public Library card opens the door to an extraordinary range of resources and services, including:
● Download eBooks and audiobooks through Libby and enjoy your next read wherever you are.
● Borrow technology, including Chromebooks, iPads and WiFi hotspots—perfect for staying connected at home, at school or on the go.
● Visit museums for free or at a discount through NRPL’s Museum Pass Program, made possible by the generosity of the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation.
● Learn a new language with Mango, offering self-paced instruction in more than 70 languages.
● Prepare for exams and careers with Peterson’s Test Prep, which offers practice tests, test-preparation eBooks, scholarship information and job-search resources.
● Stream performances and cultural programming through Medici.tv, featuring classical music, opera, ballet, documentaries, master classes and an extensive jazz collection.
● Enjoy Spanish-language entertainment through Estante Infinito with hundreds of movies, television series, podcasts, music and more.
● Attend free programs and events, from concerts and lectures to book clubs, classes, story times, wellness programs and arts and cultural performances.

The Library also offers resources for job seekers, small-business owners, students, families, hobbyists and lifelong learners. Join the 700-Card Challenge
New Rochelle residents, including children of all ages, can get a library card by visiting the New Rochelle Public Library’s Main Library or Huguenot Children’s Library with identification and proof of New Rochelle residency. Those who work or attend school in New Rochelle are also eligible for an NRPL card. Applications can also be completed online at bit.ly/NRPL_LibraryCard.
Residents will also have opportunities to sign up at NRPL’s community outreach events throughout September, including the New Rochelle Street Fair on Saturday, September 19, and Meet the Teacher Nights throughout the month. This year’s Library Card Sign-Up Month comes at an exciting time for NRPL. The Library recently unveiled a new logo as part of its ongoing efforts to create a more welcoming, accessible and forward-looking library. A newly redesigned NRPL website will also be introduced shortly, making it easier than ever to discover programs, services, resources and everything the Library has to offer.

The New Rochelle Public Library is a community resource that seeks to improve the life of every citizen in our city. The Library offers a comprehensive print and digital collection that includes retrospective and current materials, up-to-date technology for public use, and a wide range of community services and programs tailored to a diverse audience. Chartered in 1894, NRPL is a school-district library with its own operating budget and a Board of Trustees composed of seven elected members. It has served the 81,500 residents of New Rochelle from its Main Library building in the downtown business district since 1979. A smaller branch, located in the park in front of the New Rochelle High School, was restored through a grassroots effort and currently operates as the Huguenot Children’s Library.
