Mount Vernon Public Library Comic Expo Returns August 7

After a two-year hiatus, returns for fourth year

Do you love comics? Did you grow up reading comic books or go to the movies and thrill at watching your favorite comic book characters come to life? Are you an enthusiastic gamer or anime follower? Perhaps you submerge yourself into new worlds of sci-fi and fantasy. If any of these descriptions apply to you, or you are just plain curious, here is your chance to experience the realms of comics and pop culture firsthand among a community of people who share your passions!

After a two-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mount Vernon Public Library is hosting its fourth annual Comic Expo on Sunday, August 7 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm on South First Avenue between First and Second Streets in Mount Vernon, New York.

Comic Expo is a free pop culture event featuring vendors, artists, entertainers, children’s activities, gaming tournaments, anime viewings and more! Cosplayers will be present throughout the day showing off their costume finery and interacting with attendees.

Anticipation is building, and MVPL predicts that this year will be bigger and better than before! The Mount Vernon Public Library Comic Expo will bring out those passionate about comics, gaming, anime and sci-fi. From our K-pop dance challenge, Kids Comic Clubhouse, top notch entertainment and more, Comic Expo is free to the public and filled with fun activities.

There will be a cosplay costume contest with a $500 Grand Prize for contestants aged 13 and up. Cosplay, the dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime, is a popular attraction at comic conventions worldwide, and our cosplay contest is sure to be a smash. There will also be a junior cosplay contest for children under 12.  Professional cosplayers Rizuki, Spike Schumacher and Tranquil Ashes will be in attendance as judges for this year’s Cosplay Contest.

A variety of food and refreshments will be available for purchase from food truck vendors.

Comic Expo has been made possible, in part, with funding from NYS Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow.
