McGrath Re-Appointed Yonkers Inspector General

Yonkers Inspector General Brendan McGrath

Brendan McGrath has been reappointed by Mayor Mike Spano as inspector general for the City of Yonkers. McGrath, a Yonkers native, will continue to serve as the city’s top watchdog, overseeing independent audits and investigations to insure the integrity of city conduct.

“It’s important that this position be filled by someone like Brendan who is highly qualified and dedicated to a position that demands integrity and transparency,” said Spano. “Brendan has done an outstanding job to date and is a great asset in protecting the best interests of our city as inspector general.”

McGrath has served as inspector general since 2014. Previously, he served as deputy corporation counsel for the City of Yonkers, and as counsel in the Westchester County Attorney’s Office and New York State Assembly, and as deputy Westchester County clerk.

In addition to his professional background, McGrath has served as a member of the Westchester County Domestic Violence Council, Yonkers Truancy Reduction Committee, and is active in many community organizations such as Hillcrest Lakers Community Club, Annunciation Parish CYO, and the Fordham Prep Fathers’ Club.

“It has been an honor to serve the people of Yonkers as inspector general over the past five years and I am humbled by the trust Mayor Spano has shown in me through this nomination for reappointment,” said McGrath. “I pledge to continue my work addressing fraud, abuse and corruption in the City of Yonkers, and ensuring accountability of taxpayer dollars. I look forward to continuing a cooperative relationship with the administration, the City Council and the Board of Trustees for the Yonkers School District as I continue this important work.”

McGrath’s reappointment requires confirmation by the Yonkers City Council. Once confirmed, he will serve another five year term.
