On Oct. 17, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced his appointment of Helen Aggrey as Yonkers’ new Human Resources (HR) Commissioner. An attorney and recent Deputy Corporation Counsel for the City, Aggrey will serve as acting commissioner starting October 20, pending Yonkers City Council confirmation.

“Helen has been a star in our Administration and elevates herself with a unique skill set as a seasoned legal advisor and counselor,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “I am confident she will take the momentum we’ve created over the last decade and build upon it to further expand the services, policies and recruitment efforts of our HR team.”

Commissioner Helen Aggrey commented, “I am honored by Mayor Spano’s confidence in appointing me as Commissioner of Human Resources for the City of Yonkers. I look forward to continuing the department’s important work in supporting our dedicated workforce who serve the people of Yonkers with professionalism and dedication.”

Aggrey joins the City of Yonkers’ Human Resources Department after serving as Yonkers’ Deputy Corporation Counsel for the last twelve years, where she advised the City Administration and employees on compliance, business, legislative and transactional issues. Previously, Aggrey served as the City of Mount Vernon’s Assistant Corporation Counsel, where her duties included advisement of the city’s Human Resources Department and Civil Service Commission on employee issues including terminations, hires and employee policies and procedures.  Aggrey holds a Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ripon College.

Additionally, former Human Resources Deputy Commissioner Annie Huang will join Aggrey in the HR department and return to her position next month. In the Office of Corporation Counsel, Dusan Lakic is promoted to Deputy Corporation Counsel and Rachel Kravitz is elevated to Second Deputy Corporation Counsel.
