Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano welcomed Governor-Elect Alejandro Armenta Meir of Puebla, Mexico to City Hall. The visit was organized by the Yonkers Mexican-American Chamber of Commerce.
Mayor Spano and Governor-Elect Meir discussed economic growth, innovation, and the success of Mexican Americans in Yonkers. Mexican-Americans make up roughly 7% of the population of Yonkers.
“We have a large contingency of Mexican-Americans that have settled here in Yonkers and they have become successful,” said Mayor Spano. “We want to continue our strong partnership. The economic development of both of our cities is crucial, I’m looking forward to sharing ideas with the new Governor-Elect.
Meir was elected on June 2, 2024, and will be inaugurated in December to serve a 6-year term.
“Thank you to Mayor Spano for this warm welcome,” said Governor-Elect Meir. “I am happy Yonkers has been such a welcoming City to the people of Puebla.”
