Spring has arrived in Yonkers as cherry blossoms begin to bloom across the City’s parks and public spaces, bringing vibrant color and renewed energy to neighborhoods.

With tens of thousands of cherry trees throughout Yonkers, residents can enjoy a variety of species, including the popular Yoshino and Okame, which bloom at different times throughout the season.

“Each spring, these blossoms remind us of the beauty and renewal that define Yonkers,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “As we continue to invest in our parks and green spaces, we’re not only enhancing our neighborhoods but creating moments for residents and visitors alike to gather, reflect, and celebrate the season. Our growing cherry tree canopy is something the entire City can take pride in.”

In early 2025, five new Yoshino cherry trees were planted, adding to the City’s growing canopy, while existing trees near the Unity Fountain have been flourishing for more than 15 years. There are dozens along main thoroughfares like Yonkers and Kimball Avenues.

Lennon Park, on Lake Avenue, is home to the largest concentration of cherry trees, featuring both Yoshino and Okame varieties.

Yonkers Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation Commissioner Steve Sansone said, “We are working to increase our canopy of cherry trees in the hope that each spring the beauty and its impact evolve.”

Other standout destinations for visitors and photographers as peak bloom approaches are:

  • Pelton Park, 72 McLean Avenue
  • Fay Park, 428 Hawthorne Avenue
  • Trevor Park, Ravine Avenue
  • Redmond Park, 115 Cook Avenue
  • Ravine Park, 1 Ravine Avenue
  • Schultze Park, St. Eleanoras Lane
  • Smith Park, Nepperhan and Lake Avenues
