Maria Regina High School Seniors Experience TV News Broadcast with Alumna and Emmy Winner Mary Calvi

Two Maria Regina High School seniors who plan to pursue their interests in journalism at college recently experienced a major live television news broadcast when they spent a morning at the studios of CBS2 News This Morning, the daily news program broadcast by WCBS-TV CBS2 New York.

The unique opportunity for Chloe Martinez (Class of ’24) of Port Chester who has committed to S.I. Newhouse at Syracuse University and Gabriella Ruby (Class of ’24) of Yonkers who was accepted to Virginia Tech was the result of an invitation by distinguished Maria Regina alumna Mary Calvi (Class of ’87), the nine-time Emmy-winning journalist and published author. Calvi is the anchor of CBS2 News This Morning, CB2 News at Noon as well as Inside Edition Weekend.

During their visit, the students were given a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into the broadcast of one the New York metro area’s major live television news programs featuring Calvi and members of the CBS2 News team of reporters covering the morning’s local news, weather, sports, traffic, and other relevant information for viewers in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area.

Elizabeth O’Keeffe Cleary, Maria Regina’s Executive Director of Advancement, who coordinated and accompanied the students’ visit with Calvi, said: “We thank Ms. Calvi for generously taking the time from her busy schedule to host and make the visit by Chloe and Gabriella a very enriching, real-world learning experience,” adding: “It’s in keeping with Ms. Calvi’s long-standing support of her alma mater and Maria Regina’s mission of shaping young women for post-secondary success.”
