Maria Regina High School will have much to celebrate at its 62nd Annual Commencement exercises which will be held at the Hartsdale campus of the renowned all-girls Catholic high school, 5 PM, Friday, June 2.
The graduates, their parents and other family members as well as members of the administration and faculty will enjoy a program of inspirational addresses, starting with those by Class of 2023 Valedictorian Analiese Monteiro and Salutatorian Lia Porco.
In keeping with Maria Regina’s tradition of students being accepted by some of the nation’s leading colleges and universities, Monteiro will attend Wilkes University‘s Nesbitt School of Pharmacy where she earned a highly competitive seat in the six-year Doctor of Pharmacy degree program. Porco will major in mathematics at Northeastern University.
The guests will also hear from Dr. Joseph Fusco, Chair of the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) Visiting Team, who will deliver the keynote address. His appearance at the Commencement follows the April 14 notification of Maria Regina’s first-ever accreditation by MSA-CESS, one of the major developments during Maria Regina’s 65th anniversary year celebration.
At the completion of his team’s visit to Maria Regina last November, Dr. Fusco wrote in his Summary and Closure report: “…You raise individuals of character who can transform the world into a better place for all. You develop resilient people who are stronger in mind, body and soul when they leave you than when they arrived. There is a culture here at Maria Regina that extends far beyond the classroom. The greatest testimony to the impact that your attitudes are having is that most students achieve such a sense of self-esteem and such a “can do” attitude.”
Maria Regina’s Commencement exercises will also be honored with comments about the school’s 65th Anniversary by Michael J. Deegan who will retire this August as Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of New York, capping a distinguished 50 plus-year career in Catholic education as a teacher, principal, associate superintendent and deputy superintendent.
But that’s not all. Members of the graduating class of 1973, who were invited to the 2023 Commencement, will be honored again by receiving 50th Anniversary diplomas. They will join in congratulating the 2023 graduates and wishing them success in their post-secondary pursuits, following the path of Maria Regina’s alumnae who have distinguished themselves at college and in their careers.
