For all Westchester sports fans, or for those who are watching the NCAA basketball tournament known as “March Madness,” to see how they do with their brackets, this year’s tournament and Final Four have a Westcheter flavor and two players and teams to root for.

Those two teams will play each other in the Final Four for the first time. North Caronlina and Duke, two of the most successful college hoops programs ever, will play againt each other in the Final Four for the first time on Saturday April 2, at 849 PM on CBS (why so late?).

And playing for Carolina is point guard RJ Davis, from White Plains. And for Duke, AJ Griffin from Ossining. Both are Alumnis of Stepinac High School in White Plains. Davis, a sophomore at NC who is also the all time leading scorer in Westchester County history, has had a breakout sophomore year at Carolina, including a 30 point game earlier in the tournament in UNC’s upset over Baylor.

AJ Griffin, a freshman guard-forward, has had a great first year for Duke, including a 20-point game agasint Louisville earlier this year. In the tournament, Griffin made two free throws with 13 seconds left to send Duke to the Final Four.

Only one of the two Stepinac alums will move on to the finals, but both are major contributors to their teams success and both have had big games for their teams this season. Both may be moving on to the NBA after March Madness. Enjoy the game.
