Manhattanville University’s successful “Jazz at Reid Castle” concert series will continue with the latest event in the series, “Miles at 100” on Thursday, May 21 at 7 PM. The event – a must-see for jazz lovers – will feature renowned jazz musician Mark Morganelli & The Jazz Forum All-Stars paying tribute to legendary jazz musician Miles Davis.
Miles Davis is a tremendous influence on Morganelli, a celebrated trumpeter, producer, and founder of the Jazz Forum in Tarrytown who has performed with many of the world’s leading jazz artists.
“We will perform music from my recent ‘For Miles’ CD, recorded in Torino, Italy, and will also feature compositions from Miles Davis’s 1959 landmark ‘Kind of Blue’ recording,” said Morganelli.
Mark Morganelli & The Jazz Forum All-Stars features Morganelli on trumpet as well as Vincent Herring (whose discography includes over 20 titles as a leader and over 250 as a sideman) on alto sax, Craig Handy (a legendary saxophonist celebrated for his powerful tone, technical brilliance, and deep versatility across jazz, blues, and beyond) on tenor sax, Helen Sung (an acclaimed jazz pianist, composer, and Guggenheim Fellow) on piano, Rufus Reid (an active presence in the jazz world since the 1970s) on bass, and Billy Hart (a jazz drummer and educator who has performed with some of the most important jazz musicians in history) on drums.
“Miles at 100” is part of an ongoing series of jazz concerts at Manhattanville University’s Reid Castle, an intimate and historical venue right on Manhattanville’s campus in Purchase.
The first concert in the “Jazz at Reid Castle” series, “Celebrating Brasil!” took place on February 12, and was sold out. Upcoming concerts in the series include “The American Popular Songbook” on September 24 and “Holiday Jazz Celebration” on December 10.
Tickets for the “Jazz at Reid Castle” concerts start at $35 (advance ticket price) for a General Admission ticket for each show. Advance purchase is recommended; a limited number of single-show tickets will be available at the door for $40. Concertgoers can also purchase season tickets as well as premium packages, which include a private cocktail table, bottle of Champagne and charcuterie board as well as a post-show private meet and greet. Tickets are expected to sell quickly due to the limited capacity of the venue.
