Manhattanville College has named Louise Feroe, Ph.D., as Interim President of Manhattanville College. Feroe, former Acting President and former Interim Provost at Manhattanville College, took over as Interim President July 1 after the departure of Manhattanville College’s 13th president, Michael E. Geisler, Ph.D., who retired effective June 30.
“I am excited to assist the Board of Trustees of Manhattanville to embark on a search for the next President of this college and to help define the characteristics of Manhattanville for the 21st century,’’ said Feroe. “Manhattanville has emerged from the pandemic as a stronger, more versatile institution that is still true to its roots, but adapting to changes in education and the world. I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead Manhattanville into the future and the next chapter of our story.’’ Manhattanville is embarking on a new strategic plan focused on helping the college continue to evolve and adapt to the needs of the market while staying true to its roots and its mission to educate socially responsible leaders.
Feroe joined Manhattanville in 2017 as Interim Provost and was at the helm as Acting President when Geisler was on sabbatical last year. An experienced administrator, Feroe was formerly President of Mercy College and served as Academic Vice President for the Connecticut State Universities and Acting Chancellor for the former Connecticut State University System. She led higher education executive searches as a consultant before coming to Manhattanville.
“Louise will be a tremendous asset as we conduct a search for our new President,’’ said Michael Dunn, Chair of the Manhattanville Board of Trustees. “She is a very able administrator and will be a steady hand on the tiller to set the stage for Manhattanville’s next chapter. Her experience in higher education executive searches will also be a great benefit. We thank her for her leadership.’’
Geisler announced his retirement last month after six years as President. One of Geisler’s signature accomplishments was the creation of the school’s Center for Design Thinking, which has helped to attract new students and is a nexus between Manhattanville’s liberal arts tradition and a practical tool for problem solving. The emphasis on Design Thinking as a tool for creative problem solving will serve Manhattanville very well in its emergence from COVID and as it begins the next chapter in its rich history of preparing students to be change agents in the world.
