Lincoln High School Voted Yonkers’ Best High School

By Dennis Richmond, Jr.

Earlier this month, I created a community poll asking Yonkers residents to vote for the best high school in the city. The poll, shared via Yonkers Voice through Rui Benros, specifically engaged Yonkers residents who either attended or currently attend schools within the Yonkers Public School District, ensuring the results reflected lived experience and community voice.

The post quickly gained traction, generating hundreds of comments across Instagram and Facebook. Alumni, current scholars, and community members participated enthusiastically. As responses accumulated, two schools consistently emerged at the forefront: Lincoln High School and Roosevelt “Rose” High School.

A final round of voting was conducted between the two schools. While support poured in for both, one thing became clear—Lincoln Lancers showed up with unmistakable pride. Purple hearts filled comment sections across platforms, symbolizing deep alumni loyalty. After reviewing votes across social media, Lincoln High School emerged as the clear winner. In short, Lincoln rose. Get it? “Rose.”

Facebook results showed 65 votes for Lincoln and 49 for Roosevelt. On Instagram—where a younger demographic weighed in—the results were nearly even, with both schools receiving over 40 votes. When all votes were tallied across platforms, Lincoln secured the highest overall total.

Located at 375 Kneeland Avenue, Lincoln High School is led by a team of visionaries. Community response made it evident that Lincoln’s reputation extends beyond academics—it reflects care, culture, and leadership.

One example of that impact is Lavender Lane, a student-created boutique providing clothing and essential items to scholars in need. Founded by seniors Aldijana Srdanović, Wilkania Sosa Diaz, and Albiona Husaj, with support from health teacher Ms. Palma Riti, Lavender Lane offers a judgment-free space rooted in dignity and compassion. The initiative began after students witnessed classmates lose everything in a fire and has since supported many scholars facing hardship.

Lincoln’s commitment to opportunity also reaches beyond the building. The school has consistently supported Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), with strong student participation in college access programming. One former Lincoln scholar who attended an introductory HBCU event in 2016 remains in contact with me today—now a successful professional known as Dr. Infinitè Henry.

From alumni pride to student leadership and community care, Lincoln High School continues to exemplify excellence in Yonkers.

Congratulations to the past, present, and future Lancers.
