Letter to the Editor: Christianity

Letter to the Editor and to all of our members of Congress who voted “Yes” for the BBB:

I’m trying to understand how our “Christian” representatives who approved the Big Brutal (NOT Beautiful) Bill think that it is OK. What do they think being a Christian means? Just belonging to a Christian Church? Research “what does it mean to be a Christian” and you will find numerous variations of “following Jesus Christ, believing in his life, death, and resurrection, and striving to live according to his teachings” (emphasis is mine)

Our “Christian” brethren voted YES on this bill, to take away medical care from people who can’t afford it on their own, to take away SNAP benefits from people who cannot afford to feed their children, to cut essential services, like education, medical research, NOAA, etc. And the latest action is to “detain” people in cages, under tents, in the extreme heat and humidity of the Everglades, surrounded by alligators and poisonous snakes. How many of them will survive those conditions? Some Floridians are referring to it as “Alligator Auschwitz”. These people have not been convicted of a crime. Much as the Jews in Hitler’s regime were sent to concentration camps on the basis of religion, detainees are sent there because they are brown. Even if they are undocumented, this solution is unconscionable. THEY ARE STILL HUMAN BEINGS and they should be treated as such.

I drove through Western NY yesterday and saw many billboards about Christian beliefs, one of which said “When you die…you will see God.” I ask those who supported this bill, what will you say when God asks you “What did you do for the least of my brethren?”
