Letter to the Editor:

To: Eric Schoen and Dan Murphy, Editor

Bravo to Eric Schoen for speaking out against the absurd, shameful attack on Yonkers Mayor Michael Spano and his statement about Rep. Bowman.. This is just a smear tactic effort by Bowman supporters to stop Spano from being a challenger for his Congressional seat. The entire premise was ridiculous: Congress members don’t get ‘arrested’ for how they vote - everyone know this. If Bowman was White NONE of this would be spewed; but because Bowman is Black the word ‘arrest’ can never be mentioned?? And Spano certainly wasn’t ‘calling for Bowman’s arrest’ like some of the biased lunatic media reported. Furthermore, Mayor Spano has been outstanding in his advocacy, assistance and promotion of the Black community. This pitiful race-baiting hysteria is what will cause Democrats to lose seats in the next election. The public isn’t stupid: If Black leadership yells ‘racist’ every time they don’t like something, the word becomes meaningless; and in this case its truly distressing and sad.

It is very distressing to read of Rep Bowman and Senator Stewart Cousins’ baseless attacks on Yonkers Mayor Michael Spano. If I understand them correctly, a white person referring to any black person with the word ‘arrest’ is somehow racist - are they for real? This is just a convenient deflection from Spano’s criticism of Bowman’s questionable vote on Build Back Better. Both need to apologize to Mayor Spano, who is well-known to treat everyone with respect and the utmost consideration - in Yonkers and in all his dealings.
