Lesnick Endorsed by Westchester Chapter of the New York League of Conservation Voters for Yonkers City Council President

Former Yonkers City Council President Chuck Lesnick received the endorsements from the Westchester Chapter of the New York League of Conservation Voters last week in his quest to win the Democratic Primary for Council President and return to the office he held 12 years ago.

Julie Chang, Westchester Chapter Board Chair for the New York League of Conservation Voters said, “We are thrilled to be here in Yonkers to announce NYLCV Gives Green’s enthusiastic endorsement of Chuck Lesnick for City Council President! From wildfires to flooding to extreme heat, climate change is no longer a distant threat but a daily reality. And with the federal government rolling back decades of bipartisan environmental protections, there is no room for complacency.

“We need leaders who don’t just talk about the environment, but who have actually delivered results. Chuck Lesnick is one of those leaders.

“As a former City Council President, Chuck championed sustainable development, green infrastructure, and environmental justice.

“He helped launch the Saw Mill River Daylighting Project, transforming a forgotten stretch of the city into a thriving public space that improves stormwater management, attracts wildlife, and brings people closer to nature.

“He created Yonkers’ first Green Policy Task Force so environmental issues have a permanent seat at the table in city government.

“He supported clean energy projects and pushed to retrofit school buses, improving air quality and protecting the health of Yonkers’ children.

“Add to that: better transit access, smarter zoning reforms, and thoughtful urban planning that balances development with environmental protection.

“This is Chuck Lesnick’s record. But this endorsement isn’t just about Chuck’s past accomplishments, it’s about his vision for the future.

“He understands that building a greener, healthier, more equitable Yonkers requires dedication, smart policy and strong partnerships. That’s the kind of leadership NYLCV Gives Green is proud to support.

“So today, we urge all Yonkers voters who care about clean air, clean water, climate action, and public health to join us in supporting Chuck Lesnick for City Council President.

“And one more thing. Early voting starts in less than two weeks on June 14! Don’t wait until Election Day. Make a plan to vote early and help move Yonkers forward with a proven environmental leader,” said Chang.

Lesnick said, ““I am honored to receive the endorsement from the only statewide environmental organization in New York that fights for clean water, clean air, renewable energyand open space through political action. Their track record with endorsements show their propensity for picking winners. I was honored stand with the Westchester Chapter of the NYLCV on the Yonkers waterfront in front of the Science Barge which I brought to Yonkers seventeen years ago, in the shadow of the Yonkers City Pier which was restored with $3.5 million of Federal Funds which I got from Congresswoman Nita Lowey and Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. We were standing next to the point where the Saw Mill River empties into Hudson River from the Daylighted section that I helped the Council and the Mayor bond for.”
