Long-time Yonkers resident and former candidate for Westchester County Legislator, London Reyes, is more than a family man and community advocate/activist. His passion and experience in organizing and being a positive force for change and achieving success began in High School when, as a member of the iconic breaking (breakdancing) crew, the New York City Breakers in the early 1980’s.
They were the 1st crew to dress, promote and predict that Breaking should and would become an Olympic Sport. This prediction has become a reality, and the world will, for the first time, see the art and sport that is Breaking presented at the 2024 Olympics in France.
On Dec. 16, at Montessori School 27 in Yonkers, a Breaking competition was held, with five members of, the legendary NYC Breakers joining forces to host the event and promote the launch the first Public School Breaking League in the United States, in the Yonkers Public Schools.
In attendance were NYC BREAKERS: B-Boy London, Kid Nice, Action, Icey Ice, Powerful Pex. Hosts: B-Boy London (NYC Breakers) and Danny Infamous (Xfenz Crew). Judges: Elmo (Street Masters), Whorah (Beast Coast) and Nemesis. DJ’s: Johnny Juice (Public Enemy & The Bronx Boys/TBB), King Uprock (Dynasty Rockers), and DJ Tanco NYC (Black Storm Music). SHOWCASES: Uprock, Popping, and Locking.
Mayor Mike Spano and Congressman Jamaal Bowman attended to support the cause.
