Latimer on News Nation About Grand Jury Indictment of James Comey

Rep. George Latimer

By Dan Murphy

Westchester Congressman George Latimer, on a recent interview on News Nation, called the indictment of Yonkers native James Comey “the weaponization of the Department of Justice.”

“Its hilarious that President Trump says its terrible to weaponize the Depatment of Justice but that is exactly what he has done. Why is the President angry with Comey, NYAG Letitia James, Adam Shiff and others? Because they tried to hold him accountable. Shiff led and impeachment inquiry and Letitia James prosecuted him. He is using the DOJ as his own personal law firm,” said Latimer.

“He said it clearly duding the campaign that I will be your revenge President, and at the Charlie Kirk memorial he said I hate my enemies.

“It’s clear who this guy is and its cleear that he is going after his enemies. You have never seen anything like this in the history of our republic.”

Rep. Latimer, who sits on the House Foreign Affairs Committee was asked about the Trump adminstration’s freeze on foreign aid. “This was authorized by Congress and the it was the republican majorities in the House and Senate who approved these.

“This is why we need checks and balances. You don’t want one person making all of the decisions. Foreign Aid helps up to build our position around the world. It is not just with our military.
“Being tough and shooting your mouth off isn’t the best way to influence people.”

When asked about the government shutdown now underway, Latimer said “democrats are willing to work with republicans. But republicans have operated without any effort at bipartisanship. We have been called back to Washington this week to be ready.

When asked what should the public do, Latimer said, “make sure that democrats and republicans sit at the table and negotiate somethiing that both sides can agree on.”

Latimer added that democrats will not support ending the affordable care act tax credits and the tarriffs and everything that makes life less affordable.”
