Westchester County Executive George Latimer said, “Westchester County is a destination with several assets that have been in need of repair. Over the past few years we have been able to take what we already have and enhance it. I’m thrilled to add the South County Trailway to this list.”

While the paving portion of the project is complete, additional work along the trailway is still in progress including dressing the edges with topsoil, seeding as well as gates and signage installation. Bikers can expect to dismount when approaching job sites.

Commissioner of the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation, Kathy O’Connor said, “The Westchester County trailways are the most utilized facility in our parks system. I look forward to the community enjoying the updated trailway for years to come.”

The $3.1 million capital project kicked off last spring, completely rebuilding the 6.4-mile portion of the trailway from Barney Street in Yonkers to 119 in Elmsford. In addition to paving, draining, piping, fencing, crosswalks, gates and parking lots were all rebuilt.
