Lansdowne Yonkers delivered another commanding APSL performance on Matchday 13, defeating SC Vistula Garfield 5–0 at Garfield High School before severe weather forced the referee to abandon the match in the second half. With the scoreline already decisive, officials confirmed the result would stand, awarding Lansdowne all three points as they continue their pursuit of league leaders New York Greek Americans.
The victory strengthens Lansdowne’s push to reclaim the APSL Metropolitan Conference title. The Yonkers club last lifted the conference crown in 2024, and head coach Matt Kane is aiming to secure his second Metropolitan Conference championship.
The performance also continued Lansdowne’s impressive attacking form. With the five goals in Garfield, the Yonkers side has now scored 10 goals in their last two matches, following last Sunday’s 5–2 road victory over the New York Athletic Club (NYAC).
Coming into Wednesday’s match, Lansdowne sat second in the table on 26 points, six behind the Greek Americans, who had dropped points in a dramatic 4–4 draw with Doxa the previous weekend. SC Vistula Garfield entered the match ninth with 10 points and still searching for a first victory over Lansdowne in recent seasons. Previous meetings had already proven difficult for the New Jersey side, with Lansdowne recording three 4–0 victories over Vistula in 2025.
Wednesday night’s encounter followed a similar script—only with even greater attacking authority.
Early Control Pays Off
From the opening whistle, Lansdowne imposed their possession-based style, patiently building from the back while stretching Vistula’s defensive shape. Goalkeeper Constantine Christodoulou and the defensive unit remained composed in possession, while center-back Musa Bala Danso anchored the back line.
On the right flank, Edward Speed repeatedly surged forward from full-back, providing width and creating problems for the Vistula defense.
In midfield, Seamus Keogh, Henry Hamilton, and Nikolas Pajares dictated the rhythm of play, allowing Lansdowne to dominate possession and patiently search for openings.
The breakthrough arrived in the 23rd minute, and it came from the boot of James Peter Boote. The midfielder found space outside the penalty area and unleashed a powerful strike that flew beyond the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner, rewarding Lansdowne’s early dominance.
Goals Begin to Flow
Once ahead, Lansdowne quickly began to stretch the match in their favor.
Their attacking movement continued to create space down the flanks, and the visitors doubled their advantage as pressure mounted on the Vistula back line.
The third goal arrived in the 36th minute, when substitute Liam Salmon calmly finished a well-worked attacking move to extend the lead to 3–0.
Just four minutes later, Lansdowne struck again. In the 40th minute, striker Danu Kinsella-Bishop added his name to the scoresheet with a composed finish, continuing his excellent run of form in front of goal.
Before Vistula could regroup, Lansdowne added another. On the stroke of halftime in the 45th minute, defender Ali Dawha rose highest in the penalty area to power home a header from a delivery into the box, sending the visitors into the break with a commanding 4–0 lead.
Vistula Show Fight After the Break
SC Vistula Garfield emerged for the second half with renewed determination. The hosts pushed higher up the field and began testing Lansdowne with long-range attempts and set pieces.
Midfielder Lucas Miguel Castillo came closest, forcing a strong save from Christodoulou with a well-struck free kick from distance.
Despite the improved effort from the home side, Lansdowne remained composed defensively. Danso continued to dominate aerial battles while the visitors calmly circulated possession and limited Vistula to half-chances.
Kinsella-Bishop Adds the Fifth
Lansdowne soon restored their attacking momentum, and the fifth goal arrived in the 60th minute.
Striker Danu Kinsella-Bishop found space in the attacking third and finished confidently to make it 5–0, securing his second goal of the night and further highlighting Lansdowne’s attacking strength.
Head coach Matt Kane then rotated his squad, bringing on fresh legs including Benjamin Stitz, Ronan O’Brien, and Sean Doran while maintaining control of the match.
Lightning Brings Early End
Not long after the fifth goal, the weather began to deteriorate rapidly.
Dark clouds rolled over Garfield and heavy rain followed, accompanied by visible lightning and thunder. With safety becoming a concern, the referee halted play and instructed both teams to leave the field.
Officials monitored conditions for a period, but with the storm intensifying the match was officially abandoned. Because the game had progressed deep into the second half with Lansdowne holding a decisive lead, the 5–0 scoreline was allowed to stand.
Busy Schedule Ahead for Lansdowne
The victory continues an important stretch of matches for Lansdowne Yonkers. The club recently learned that their National Amateur Cup first-round match will take place on March 28 at 7 p.m. against South Coast Union in Massachusetts.
Lansdowne last lifted the prestigious national trophy in 2021, and Kane will be looking to guide the club to its third Amateur Cup title—and his first as manager.
Before that competition begins, Lansdowne will host their home opener on Saturday night, March 14, when they welcome Richmond County to Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers for an 8 p.m. kickoff.
Vistula Preparing for Historic Cup Match
Despite the difficult result, SC Vistula Garfield remain focused on an important milestone for their club. The New Jersey side is preparing for their first-ever U.S. Open Cup campaign, where they will host professional side One Knoxville SC at Garfield High School.
For Lansdowne, however, the message to the rest of the APSL remains clear.
Lightning may have ended the match early, but with 10 goals in two games, the Yonkers side is building serious momentum as the season moves toward its decisive stretch.
