Jann Mirchandani
Councilman Ed Lachterman
By Dan Murphy
As a result of the unfortunate passing of Yorktown Supervisor Tom Diana, the Town of Yorktown will hold a special election on April 16 to fill the vacancy of Supervisor.
Republican Councilman Ed Lachterman will be running against democrat Jann Mirchandani. Mirchandani ran for Supervisor last year, losing to Diana 54%-46%. “The issues that motivated me to run last year haven’t changed,” said Mirchandani. “Accountability, fiscal responsibility, and quality-of-life issues such as roads and sewers were the driving force of the campaign last year, and it resonated with 46% of the voters.”
Jann Mirchandani and her husband, who celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary last month, moved to Yorktown over 20 years ago with their two children, both Yorktown High School graduates. In addition to being a small business owner of over 25 years herself, Jann is a well-known and passionate advocate for small businesses and nonprofits in the community.
Jann serves on the Executive Board of the Greater Hudson Valley Council Boy Scouts of America (BSA) as the Council Commissioner, the first female to hold this position. She previously served on the Merger Task Force responsible for completing a feasibility study and ultimately working to oversee the merger between the Westchester-Putnam Council BSA and the Hudson Valley Council BSA. Jann is also on the Board of the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce. She is an active member of the Business Council of Westchester, the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Development Officers.
Jann brings decades of experience as a local business owner; she is a creative thinker with a robust
record of community service and leadership. Jann has earned a reputation for being responsive
and she will work hard to keep Yorktown moving forward in the coming years, said Marni
Rabin-Marron, Yorktown Democratic Committee Co-Chair.
YDC Co-Chair Mark A. Lieberman said: “Jann clearly has the management, planning, and
financial skills required to get Yorktown back on track. Yorktown needs someone like Jann who
can not only manage the current needs of the residents and businesses but can also do the
long-range infrastructure planning that has been kicked down the road for years. Jann will bring
a new, independent voice to the Town Board with high energy and fresh ideas.”
Yorktown Republicans, who currently have four republicans on the town board, nominated Councilman Ed Lachterman for Supervisor. “The death of Tom Diana, just days after beginning his term as Town Supervisor, was a big blow to his family, his friends and the town of Yorktown. The Yorktown Republican Town Committee tonight unanimously endorsed Ed Lachterman for the special election to fill the vacant Town Supervisor seat. Ed, who has been serving as acting Town Supervisor since Tom’s passing, is highly qualified to serve as Town Supervisor, having over eight years of experience in town government as a Town Councilman.” said Kevin Byrnes, Chairman of the YRTC.
“The YRTC wholeheartedly endorses Ed Lachterman, and believes that Ed is the most logical choice to complete the term of his – and our – good friend Tom Diana” added Byrnes.
Ed Lachterman, a small business owner, has been a resident of Yorktown for almost 30 years, and has served as a Town Councilman since 2015. He has served as Deputy Town Supervisor for over a year. Ed is a member and two-term past president of the Yorktown Lions, a charter member and former adjutant of the Sons of the American Legion squadron 1009, and a past board member of Yorktown Against Heroin. Ed was a charter member of the Yorktown Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT). He has also partnered with The Alliance for Safe Kids (ASK), The Harrison Apar Foundation, My Brother Vinny, United for The Troops, the Westchester Alzheimer’s Association, The ALS Foundation, and The Lustgarten Foundation.
