Yonkers City Council President Mike Khader and Democratic Majority Leader Michael Sabatino recently announced their concerns regarding the proposed hotels located at 189 S. Broadway and 602 S. Broadway. At present, proposals for the hotels are being circulated by developers to the Yonkers planning and zoning boards.
“I have serious concerns about these proposed hotels,” said Khader. “I have no objection to business development in Yonkers, however, we must be thoughtful in our approach, and carefully weigh proposals such as this one that have the potential to seriously impact neighborhood quality of life. I am not convinced that the proposed hotels will constitute a valuable addition to the South Broadway neighborhood. We are very lucky to have an extremely active Business Improvement District in the South Broadway area, and after a concerted effort to improve the South Broadway corridor, I do not want to jeopardize the good work that has been done in that area.”
“I oppose these hotel developments on South Broadway,” added Sabatino. “I do not believe that there is a need for these properties in that corridor, and I have serious concerns about the impact of the proposed developments on the neighborhood.”
The proposed hotels will be discussed at a Sept. 12 meeting of the Yonkers Planning Board, and a Sept. 25 meeting of the Zoning Board.
