From the Yonkers Sanctuary Movement: Aug. 18
ICE was seen near Enrico Fermi School and Linden St, Yonkers, in the area of Poplar St and Linden St.
This was the second person to write to me this afternoon reporting activity in the area, and now it has been confirmed.
As it is near a school, please stay alert and take precautions.
One of the posts below the Yonkers Sanctuary Movements page, suggested that immigrants should move out of areas that ICE is working. “The best thing immigrants living in that area of Linden, in Yonkers, can do is consider moving out of there if they have the possibility. That area has become a place of great concern due to the presence and operations attributed to ICE officers.
“That’s where they usually operate, and there have already been several occasions where arrests have been reported in that area. Similarly, between Linden and Elm, it is recommended to be very cautious, as it has been pointed out as another area where ICE officers may be present.
“For that reason, those who live or pass through those areas should stay informed, know their rights, and take all necessary precautions. If they have the possibility to move to a zone where they feel safer and more secure, I consider it an option they should seriously evaluate. It’s not about creating panic, but about keeping our community informed and protected. Take good care of yourselves, be attentive, and look out for each other. Good luck and blessings to everyone.”
It would be difficult for most to reloacte from where your roots are, especially in a very expensive real estate and rental market.
Yonkers Sanctuary Movement also posted another ICE sighting at Nepperhan Ave. and Elm Street on August 20.
