In one of its final efforts to promote participation in the 2020 Census, the City of Yonkers this week deployed its Yonkers Counts 2020 Census vehicle. The Yonkers Counts branded truck, equipped with loud speakers, is visiting neighborhoods throughout the city with English and Spanish messages from Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and Yonkers Councilwoman Corazon Pineda-Isaac urging residents to complete the 2020 Census.
“It’s crunch time for Yonkers,” said Mayor Mike Spano. “Yonkers has a lot to gain if we gather an accurate count in the 2020 Census. The Yonkers Counts truck is just another opportunity for us to inform our residents that census data guides federal funding for critical services to cities like Yonkers. Now more than ever, response to the 2020 Census is vital – and it is safe and easy.”
Now through the end of September, the Yonkers Counts 2020 census truck will travel to historically undercounted areas of the city including Nodine Hill, Ludlow, South Broadway, Riverdale Ave., Warburton Ave., McLean Ave., Kimball Ave., Bronx River Road, Lincoln Park and around Municipal Housing Authority residences in southwest Yonkers.
Currently, Yonkers’ response rate to the 2020 Census is 60.1%. The deadline to complete the 2020 Census is September 30.
