Yonkers Rising wishes Connie Cornelia a very happy 103rd birthday!

Naomi Cornelia Ray Evan (aka Connie) was born in Raleigh, N.C., on Nov. 16, 1916. She celebrated her 103rd birthday with family and friends last week at the Sunrise of Crestwood Senior Living Center.

Connie comes from a family of six brothers and two sisters, of which she was the seventh in line. She grew up on her father’s plantation and at the age of 9, she and her family moved to New York.

Connie decided on working in the medical field and worked with a group of four physicians over 60 years. During that time she became a certified medical technician, and then an LPN.

Connie is also being honored by Bethel Baptist Church in White Plains as its oldest living member. She loves singing and was the church historian for many years. She also is co-founder of the White Plains/Greenburg branch of the NAACP.

Connie is a past matron of Bright Hope Chapter 46, Prince Hall Order of the Eastern Star.
