Greatest Players In Indianapolis Colts History

As much as the NFL is an awesome sport to begin with, the sport would be absolutely nothing if it were not for the players. And, if we are honest, each team has had plenty of legends.

This even includes the teams that have not seen a win in a while, the Colts for example, have been teetering between legendary and terrible in recently years, sitting at the marker of ‘not too bad’ in most of our minds when we look at the win-loss rates and the skill as we edge towards the Super Bowl.

However, the team may not be in dazzling lights right now, but in the past there have been plenty of players who put the Colts in flashing lights and made everyone turn to NFL player prop bets for the big Colts action.

The Colts became official in the NFL in 1953, and have been well respected and prestigious ever since. Sure they’ve had their ups and downs, and they aren’t in the top 5 to win this year, but they’re still great!
So, in honor of the Colts long respected reign, let us take a journey through Colts history, to see what legends wore the proud colors of the Colts.

Peyton Manning
Peyton Manning was the ‘07 Super Bowl Champ, and a 4 time MVP with the Colts, he was then inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021.  However, he is not only a legend to the Colts, but in the whole franchise really. He played with the Colts for 12 seasons before he was released and then signed to the Broncos.
The minute he left University he just carried this dominance with this. He gained many achievements and records, such as the most 4,000-yard passing seasons, single-season passing yards, single-season passing touchdowns, and so on.  His resume was always impressive, he gained 3 NFL MVPs, 5 All-Pro selections and 11 Pro Bowl nominations.  He was announced for the Hall of Fame in the class of 2021, and rightly so!

Reggie Wayne
Reggie Wayne was a 2007 Super Bowl champion, 6 time pro bowl select, and 10th time all-time in receiving yards.  He and Harrison kind of fight for the title of who is best in the offense, but Wayne went on to be a legendary player. He earned his first pro bowl in 06, and he finished the season with 86 catches, 9 scores and 1,310 yards. Then he gained 5 back to back Pro Bowls in following seasons.
He was a part of the team that won the 07 Super Bowl, and he was significant to this as he caught the only touchdown pass that was thrown in that game. Sadly he retired from the NFL after the 2014 season, and even though he is not a Hall of Famer, he is famous to the Colts fans!

Marvin Harrison
Harrison was also a 2007 Super Bowl Champ, a 6 time All-Pro, and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016.  He was selected as 19th in the NFL draft, and he lived up to his pick and became extremely successful after this. He played 190 games and is a Super Bowl champion, an 8 time Pro Bowl selection, 6 time All-Pro selection, and was named All-2000s Hall of Fame team member.  He was a receiver for Manning, and together they had a record of 112 touchdown passes from QB to WR. Then, when he retired, he had 13 seasons with the Colts, with an incredible 128 receiving touchdowns, 1,102 receptions, and 14,580 yards receiving.

Dwight Freeney
Freeney is a 2007 Super Bowl champ, a 3 time All -Pro and was the Defensive Player of the Year for the AFC in 2005.  Freeney was a defender, and one of the best in NFL Colts history. He was always a force to be reckoned with, even since his college career when he played for Syracuse.  Before he was drafted as the 11th pick in the NFL draft 2022, he even had an All-American Honors in his college season in 2001!
Then he entered the league and lived up to the dream, he gained 7 Pro-Bowl nominations, the ‘05 Defensive Player of the Year award, 3 All-Pro selections, and won the Super Bowl in 2007.  He left the team after 10 years and played for many other teams including: the Cardinals, Seahawks, Chargers, Falcons, and Lions before he hung up his helmet in 2018.

 Adam Vinatieri
We cannot forget Vinatieri on this list. Vinatieri is widely believed to be one of the best players to kick ever, not just in the Colts… Ever.  He gained many nicknames for this reason over the years, including Iceman, Mr. Clutch, and Automatic Adam.  However, everyone can agree Vinatieri has been one of the best Colts to ever play. He also played with the Patriots when he became a free agent, he won 3 Super Bowls with the Pats and then rejoined the Colts.  He had an incredible 85.3% FG rate on 336 attempts, and has an insane 96.8% average, he has also won 4 Super Bowls and made the game winning kick in 2 of these!
