Democratic Primary in June Against Rep. Jamaal Bowman

Revealing a monumental amount of support behind his bid for Congress, Westchester County Legislator Vedat Gashi’s campaign for New York’s 16th Congressional District announced today that they raised $469,854 in less than one month. Notably, Gashi also demonstrated strong grassroots support by submitting almost 4,000 petition signatures — over three times what is required — securing his place on the June 28th primary ballot.

“I’m awestruck by the outpouring of support our campaign has received from our local community. It underscores how ready we are for real change and real representation,” said Vedat Gashi, candidate for Congress. “Together, we can strengthen our country and create a fairer New York that works for everyone.”

Vedat Gashi is an attorney and a Democratic District Leader of the Yorktown Democratic Party. In 2019, he was elected to serve on the Westchester County Board of Legislators, representing the 4th Legislative District. In 2021, he was re-elected and currently serves as the Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, where he oversees Westchester County’s $2.2 billion budget. Under his leadership, Westchester County has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the community while lowering the County property tax levy every year he has been in elected office. County investments improved Westchester’s roads, water and sewer facilities, added affordable housing, invested over $35 million to bring the County fleet into the 21st century by converting from fossil fuel to hybrid and electric vehicles, and increased funding for childcare by over $10 million.

Vedat Gashi lives and works in his hometown of Yorktown with his wife and two kids who attend public school.
