The race for Congress in the newly redrawn 3rd District of NY is a bit confusing. This seat has always been a Long Island congressional district, until the recent redistricting made the 3rd a Long Island and Westchester-Sound Shore district. The current Congressman, Rep. Tom Suozzi, is running for Governor so it is an open seat.
In Westchester, State Senator Allesandra Biaggi has given up her senate seat to run in this district for Congress. Sen. Biaggi, Robert Zimmerman and Melanie D’Arrigo are the three most prominent names running in the democratic primary.
Seligson’s endorsement of Zimmerman is the second from Westchester democrats. Mamaroneck Mayor Tom Murphy has also endorsed Zimmerman’s campaign for Congress.
for a Long Island candidate from a Westchester democrat. A resident of Great Neck, Robert Zimmerman has proudly been a leading force in advocating for Planned Parenthood, LGBTQ+ rights, Medicare for All, tax fairness, gun safety policies, a truly safe and secure Israel and a two-state solution in the Middle East, comprehensive immigration reform, border security, defending voting rights, restoring the SALT deduction, and taking on those that deny the climate crisis.
Last month, Biaggi received the endorsement from Westchester Congressman Jamaal Bowman. The Democratic Congressional Primary is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28th.
