Former Drug Lord Gone. Alpo Slain in Harlem.

Halloween 2021 will be a day to remember in the New York underworld. Alpo Martinez, 55, was murdered in a drive-by shooting in the Harlem neighborhood of New York. Martinez was once a drug lord in New York. In 1989, during arguably the height of his career, he had given $300,000 to someone in Virginia. His instructions were for the person to take the money back to New York. The story, which comes from an affidavit from Nathaniel Watkins, says that the person rode to New York in a limousine.

Alberto Geddis Martinez, nicknamed Alpo, was born on June 8th, 1966, in the East Harlem section of New York. Martinez was only 13-years-old when he started drug dealing. After Alpo built his name and credibility, Alpo quickly rose to prominence as a drug dealer. Afterward, he became a drug lord in New York. It all came crashing down on November 7th, 1991, after an arrest.

Facing five consecutive life sentences, all of which did not have the possibility of parole, Martinez turned informant. Many people in the underworld would say that Alpo is a snitch or a rat. After being charged with over a dozen charges of murder, multiple drug charges, and conspiracy to commit murder, his sentence became just 35 years. Martinez came home from prison in 2015 and was awaiting a new identity in the United States Federal Witness Protection Program.

His murder occurred on 147th street near Frederick Douglass Boulevard. That information came from the Daily News. The former drug lord was one of many who was well-known by the Hip-Hop and Rap community. Many outside of New York knew about Alpo after the 2002 film Paid in Full. In the Roc-A-Fella produced film, rapper Cam’ron played Martinez.

Alpo Martinez will live on forever.
