On June 4, Democrat George Latimer, Congressional Candidate for the 16th District in New York, was endorsed by former Congressman for the 17th District in New York and current Congressional Candidate for NY-17, Mondaire Jones. Jones announced his endorsement for Latimer in Sleepy Hollow. Democratic leaders from Greenburgh, Irvington and Tarrytown also officially announced their support for Latimer. As early voting nears on June 15th, Latimer continues to earn support of leaders from across the Bronx and Westchester, building a diverse, grassroots coalition to win the Democratic primary.

“I am immensely proud to receive the support of Mondaire Jones, an honest and thoughtful legislator who I had the pleasure to work with during his tenure as an attorney for Westchester County. Mondaire has a record of delivering for the Lower Hudson Valley and has always stood up for communities in need – he talks the talk, and walks the walk,” said NY-16 Congressional Candidate George Latimer. “I look forward to working with Mondaire in Washington to continue delivering real results for everyone, and provide NY-16 with the leadership it deserves.”

“I am thrilled to endorse my friend and Westchester County Executive George Latimer for Congress. George is the clear choice to represent NY-16. George believes in lifting up all communities, and he has a track record to prove it. George also has the experience needed to be a unifying Democratic voice in Washington, where he will work with leaders across the country to deliver real results, including: keeping our communities safe from gun violence, protecting reproductive freedoms, investing in infrastructure, combating climate change, standing strong with our ally Israel, and safeguarding our democracy,” said former NY-17 Congressman and presumptive Democratic nominee for NY-17 Mondaire Jones. “In a moment when we are in desperate need of a leader with real solutions, bold ideas, and a history of delivering for New Yorkers, George is the ideal candidate who will reinforce the district’s Democratic values and be a party unifier, not a divider.”

Latimer was also joined by Greenburgh Town Council Francis Sheehan, Greenburgh Democratic Committee Chairman Steve Bass, Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner, Greenburgh Town Council Ellen Hendrickx, Greenburgh Town Council Joy Haber, Village of Irvington Trustee Mitch Bard, Village of Elmsford Trustee Matthew Evans, Village of Hastings Trustee Tom Drake, Former County Legislator Alfreda Williams, Village of Hastings Trustee Morgen Fleisig, and District 12 Westchester County Legislator David Imamaura.

“Whether he was City Councilman, State Assemblymember, State Senator, or now as County Executive, George Latimer has been committed to improving the lives of his constituents in every role he has served in. His dedication, expertise and record are why I am endorsing him in this primary,” said Tarrytown Mayor Karen Brown. “As our member of Congress, George will fight for us and ensure that we have the resources we need to thrive.”

“George Latimer’s record of results, his skills as a legislator, and his commitment to democratic values have earned him my endorsement in the NY-16’s Democratic primary,” said Greenburgh Democratic Committee Chairman Steve Bass. “George has done great things for this district as County Executive, and I am certain that he will do even more as our Congressman.”

Jones further commented, “I want to be clear: I am making this endorsement to stand up for my Jewish constituents because Rep. Bowman and I have very different views on Israel. I have been horrified by his recent acceptance of the DSA endorsement, his denial of the sexual assault of Israeli women by Hamas on October 7, and his embrace of Norman Finkelstein, a well-known antisemite. I know George Latimer will be a unifying force for our party, and I look forward to working with him in Washington to get things done on behalf of New Yorkers.”

“There is nothing progressive about rushing to call for a cease-fire in the days following Oct. 7 before Israel could even begin to defend itself. There is nothing progressive about getting endorsed by the D.S.A., which in the days following Oct. 7 amplified a pro-Hamas rally in New York City.”
