The Enrico Fermi Educational Foundation of Yonkers held its 55th annual scholarship breakfast May 6 at Westchester Manor, where more than 250 people enjoyed a keynote speech by Dr. Joseph Scelsa, founder and president of the Italian American Museum in New York City.
The Enrico Fermi Educational Fund of Yonkers is a non-profit organization that was founded more than 55 years ago. It began as a vision of several individuals, led by Michael Vitulli, to generate financial support for Italian-American students who reside in Yonkers to further their education
Today, the organization offers additional financial support to several students throughout Westchester County. Each year, $40,000 in scholarships is given to students who demonstrate outstanding commitment to academics and their communities.
To date, the organization has provided scholarships totaling well over $1 million.
This year’s scholarship winners include, from left: Francesca Serraino from The School of the Holy Child, who will be attending Stony Brooke University; Katherine Ricca from John Jay High School, who will be attending Harvard University; Michael Tozzi from Fordham Preparatory School, who will be attending The University of Saint Andrews in Scotland; Anna Tender from White Plains H.S., who will be attending Yale University; Charles Panzarella from Westlake H.S., who will be attending Cornell University; Angelina Campanile from The Ursuline School, who will be attending North Western University; and Nicole Iori from the Dominican Academy, who will be attending Cornell University.
