FBI Offers $10,000 Reward for Information Leading to Arrest of Mtayari Dixon

Wanted for New Rochelle Murder of James Caldwell in 2022

The FBI has joined in the search for Mtayari Dixon, who has been on the run since October 26, 2022, when he is accused of shooting James Caldwell Jr. in New Rochelle. The two were involved in a verbal altercation which resulted in Caldwell’s death at the age of 29.

16 months after the shooting, the FBI announced on Jan. 31, “The FBI’s New York Field Office is assisting the New Rochelle Police Department in New York with the search for Mtayari Dixon. Dixon is wanted for murder in the death of a man on October 26, 2022. Dixon is alleged to have shot the man after the two were involved in a verbal altercation in New Rochelle, New York, causing his death. After the murder, it is believed that Dixon boarded a train and went to Stamford, Connecticut. He then may have boarded a bus to Atlanta, Georgia, and then traveled on to Charlotte, North Carolina. Dixon has known ties to Charlotte, North Carolina; Atlanta, Georgia; Stamford, Connecticut; and New Rochelle, New York.

“On November 14, 2022, Dixon was charged with murder in the New Rochelle City Court, New York, and a state warrant was issued for his arrest. The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the location and arrest of Mtayari Dixon,” end of FBI statement.

One year after the shooting, on October 26, 2023, the New Rochelle Police Department announced that they had “obtained a Warrant of Arrest regarding a Homicide that occurred on October 26th, 2022 on Horton Avenue and Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard. The NRPD is looking to arrest Mtayari Z. Dixon, 29, formerly of New Rochelle but currently known to reside in Stamford, Connecticut.

“The Warrant calls for full extradition from any U.S. State. Anyone with current information of his whereabouts are encouraged to call New Rochelle Police Detectives at 914-654-2300.

“James Caldwell Jr, 29 years of age, of New Rochelle, died one year ago today. On October 26, 2022, at about 5:54pm, New Rochelle Police received multiple calls of shots fired, and that a person was shot near the intersection of Horton Avenue and Colonel Lee Archer Boulevard. Upon arrival, New Rochelle Police located a person on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds.

“New Rochelle Police, Fire and Ambulance personnel administered first aid and the victim was transported to a local hospital. Caldwell, ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

“Although New Rochelle Detectives have identified the person believed to be responsible for the murder, the suspect, Mtayari Dixon, is believed to be in hiding somewhere in the southern United States.  New Rochelle Detectives have been working with other Law Enforcement agencies, including the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, to bring Mtayari Dixon to justice.  We urge anyone with information on Dixon’s whereabouts to contact the New Rochelle Police Department at 914-654-2300,” end of NRPD statement from Oct. 2023.

Crimestoppers had offered a $2,500 reward dating back to 2022.
