FBI, NYSP & New Windsor Police Offering $50k Reward in Cold Case Homicide of Nancy Smith in New Windsor, 2001

COLD CASE REWARD: New Windsor police are renewing their push for answers 24 years after the unsolved killing of Nancy Smith, now offering a combined $50,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Smith, a 32-year-old woman, was found dead inside her home on Provost Drive on December 5, 2001. Police say her parents went to check on her after she failed to show up for work at Horton Hospital in Middletown. They discovered her body on the living room floor. Investigators determined Smith was the victim of a vicious attack, and the homicide investigation began that day.

As the anniversary approaches, the New Windsor Police Department is again asking for the public’s help. Authorities say investigators and family members have spent more than two decades searching for the missing pieces to this case, and they believe someone may still be holding critical information.

Police say the total reward now stands at $50,000 — $35,000 from local and state efforts and an additional $15,000 offered by the FBI. The New Windsor Police Department is working closely with the New York State Police and the FBI, using advanced DNA testing, forensic tools and modern investigative techniques in hopes of finally bringing closure to Smith’s family.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Kevin Moore with the Town of New Windsor Police Department at 845-563-4678 or by email at kmoore@newwindsor-ny.gov.
