Friends,
By the time this newspaper comes out next week, The United States of America will have a new President. My conversations around town have indicated a large groundswell of support for one candidate. I hear that candidates name every time I step into my Barber Shop, Rob’s Empire Barbershop and Studio on Yonkers Avenue down from Raceway Diner.
I usually don’t share who I am voting for President with my readers. I want you to review the candidates, their positions on issues of importance to you, speeches they have made and anything else to help you make up your mind. It’s important that we have intelligent people voting on Election Day who understand the issues that affect this country. If you read this column , I know you fit the fill.
In my column of September 26 I indicated to you who the candidates were and how unhappy I was with the selection of both of the major parties.i indicated how important it is that you vote as people have died protecting our precious right to vote.
Up until press time for this column, I was still unsure who to vote for President and if I would share it with my readers. Like many of you I am not thrilled by either candidate, and feel both political parties can do better. There has to be someone out their with a spark of energy who could do a good job turning this nation around and unifying its people.
So as I stated here in September, my vote was one for a candidate to lose as opposed to win. And over the weekend one candidate lost my vote because of the stupidity that came from the candidates campaign and the candidate himself. Stupidity that affected good, hardworking people I know. So here we go.
If I wanted a candidate who could turn the economy around, lower gas prices, keep our people safe and lower the cost of food, I would probably vote for Donald Trump. He is a very smart man who surrounds himself with bright people, for the most part yes men and women. He reminds me of when Alexander Haig, then Secretary of State said, ‘I’m in charge here’ when President Reagan was shot. He runs the shop!
Remember friends the President is the man responsible for running our country and manages foreign relations with lands all over the world.
Simply put we need a man or woman who takes the job very seriously. I’m sorry to say that I don’t think Donald Trump does. His words and language at so many events is not becoming of a President.
To have a comedian make the statement against Puerto Rico as occurred at the Trump rally on Sunday and not immediately condemn that person is disgraceful. I don’t care if he didn’t know the comedian or what he was going to say. I can’t vote for someone who would hire a comedian that appeared at Madison Square Garden on Sunday and let that jokester embarrass himself, a former President of the United States.
Trump’s attempt to blame the Jews if he doesn’t get elected shows me the man is not of sound mind and body. His health records need to be immediately released prior to Election Day. Just the way I feel about Joe Biden. Biden is not of sound mind and body, and I am glad leaders in the Democratic Party got him off the ballot.
So look who we are stuck with. Kamala Harris. The lady is given the task of dealing with the border and did nothing. She made no important decisions during her tenure as Vice President. You can’t stand back and say, ‘Wow, Kamala did this or that!’
Kamala has what Trump needs. People that keep her away from the public and scrutinize every word that comes from her mouth. And silence her. If you were to ask 10 Random people why they support Kamala, probably the only reason is she is not Donald Trump. We don’t know where she is coming from and her plans for this country. And the election is 5 days away.
Most Americans will be voting their pocketbook or wallet next Tuesday. Those folks will probably go with Trump. Kamala may have been an excellent District Attorney, but she’s not yet ready for prime time being number 1 on the national stage. She needs to surround herself with intelligent advisors and not Democratic hacks.
When I go to sleep at night I don’t want a comedian in charge. I want a person who can make sound decisions pushing any buttons. It’s ok if that person has intelligent people advising her. Kamala wouldn’t be the first President who didn’t call the shots in the White House.
To my friends from Puerto Rico, a place I have visited often, I apologize to you for the Trump mess. He does not represent the American people. To the guys in the Barbershop and Studio, the only way this country will be great is if you participate in the election process by voting or running for office.
No matter who the candidate of your choice for president is, mark the ballot with a black marker, and before you put it in the machine say a prayer for our country. God Bless America!
Briefs:
I lost a long time friend and Yonkers City Hall lost a dedicated, hard worker with the death of Lucia Trovato. If you got a proclamation from Mayors Spencer, Amicone or Spano, the words on that proclamation were probably written by Lucia. Lucia started her career in public service working with Congressman Bruce Caputo. She will be sorely missed, by those at City Hall and by the thousands of people she helped working 1 weekend day at the Yonkers Public Library! And by this writer!
This week we Trick or Treat for Halloween. The days are gone when children carried bags for their candy and little orange boxes to collect money for UNICEF, United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. Please go to unicefusa.org and show your support for children around the world with whatever you can afford to give.
A beautiful Simchat Torah, (“Rejoicing of the Torah”), Jewish religious observance held on the last day of Sukkot (“Festival of Booths”), when the yearly cycle of Torah reading is completed and the next cycle is begun was held last week at Chabad of Yonkers. Kudos to Rabbi Mendy Hurwitz and the ‘Dancing Doctor’ the brilliant neurologist Dr. David Dickoff for a wonderful evening!
Yonkers bridge where Sgt. Frank Gualdino died in a terrible crash named in his memory this week. A fitting tribute to one of Yonkers finest. He is sorely missed by his family and colleagues who came to the dedication.
WELCOME BACK DELITE BAKERY ON YONKERS AVENUE. As a Rabbi at Temple Emanu-El once said, you know you are someone when you get a DeLight napoleon cake for your birthday!
