Eastchester Cheer Program Hosts “SK: Simply the Best”

Last night, Eastchester’s cheer program hosted the third-annual ‘SK: Simply the Best’ Game Day Competition, inviting schools from all over the area to hit the mat at one of the fastest-growing fall cheer competitions around.

The event—part of Eastchester’s Pink Week— raised money for the American Cancer Society and honored the memory of beloved educator and cheer coach Samantha Kearns, who passed away in 2024.

Varsity cheer coach Stephanie Leone, a close friend and colleague of Kearns, noted that support for the event—and other Pink Week initiatives—speaks both to the eagerness of the Eastchester community to turn out for a good cause and to the enduring nature of Kearns’ legacy.

“It’s one of the best things about being part of the Eastchester community,” said Leone. “We show up for sports, we show up for theater; any event we host has such great backing from both the school and the community. So to see this come to fruition over the last couple of years, to raise money for breast cancer research, to honor Sammy’s memory, it’s just a testament to how beautiful this place really is.”
