Eagle Project Addresses Food Insecurity

Joseph Barca, in expanded food pantry at Sacred Heart

Life Rank Boy Scout, Joseph Barca, with the assistance of 14 volunteers, recently moved the Food Pantry at Sacred Heart into a new expanded space for his Eagle Project. The move included installing shelving into the new location, sorting over 50 cases of donated food and stocking the shelves. The project is the final step for Barca to complete to receive the highly coveted rank of Eagle Scout.

Joseph Barca, a resident of Yonkers, is the son of Dave and Melissa Barca. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 12 Yonkers and an entering freshman at Sacred Heart High School. Barca expects to receive his new rank of Eagle in the Fall.

The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also for the young man as he enters higher education, business, and community service. Only about four percent of all Boy Scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

Boy Scout Troop 12 is an active, scout led troop that meets on Tuesday nights September to June in the Sacred Heart Church Hall. The troop camps and hikes monthly. Troop 12 Yonkers will hold an open house and recruitment drive soon.
