Croton Man Arrested for Bomb Throwing Dispute with Neighbor

On May 14, the Croton on Hudson Police Department announced the arrest of Shea Kirschbaum, 38, of Croton.

“On May 11 at 648 PM officers were dispatched to a home on Van Wyck Street for a reported explosion.

“Upon arrival, officers observed an area where an explosion had occurred from an unknown explosive device. The explosion damaged multiple items on personal property.

“Detectives responded and determined that the explosive device was thrown onto the property after a neighbor dispute.

“The Westchester County Police Department Bomb Squad was notified in order to identify the explosive.

“The bomb squad was successfully able to identify the explosive as a 3-inch commercial display mortar, which is illegal to possess in New York State.

“The individual who caused the explosion was later identified as Mr. Kirschbaum. A search warrant was obtained for his property and no additional explosives were located.

“Mr. Kirschbaum was arrested and charged with Mischief in the First Degree for damaging the property of another person by means of an explosive, a Class B Felony. He was arraigned in the Village Justice Court and released on his own recognizance, with a future return date. “
