Congressman Latimer Talks Colbert Show, CBS & Trump

By Dan Murphy

As Congress is about to depart Washington, D.C., for its summer recess, Congressman George Latimer took to the House floor to deliver his weekly one-minute address to his constituents.

Rep. Latimer effectively gave us a bit of levity, combined with a profound message, and a theme of “Meanwhile.”

“The news today is louder than a toddler with a kazoo at a Metallica concert. So while the headline screams, the internet screams louder, with a monologue known as meanwhile.

“Meanwhile, Paramount settles a suit with President Trump over a dispute that could have easily been dismissed and defended as freedom of the press…or not.

“Meanwhile, Paramount-CBS is seeking a multi-million dollar merger with Skydance Media that requires the approval from the very same Trump administration. Coincidence? Surely Not.

“Meanwhile, the Trump administration calls for media fairness, the kind perhaps shown on Fox, OAN, and Newsmax, maybe.

“Meanwhile, Steven Colbert, the host of the show Late Night, ranked #1 among hosts in his time slot and a Trump critic, has his show cancelled by CBS—a financial decision, it is said.

“Meanwhile, CBS news great Edward R. Murrow rolls over in his grave,” said Latimer.

Editor’s Note: Congressman Latimer is well aware that Edward R. Murrow, recently portrayed by George Clooney on Broadway and a hero in my world of journalism, while not cancelled, had his wings significantly cut back after confronting Senator Joseph McCarthy in the 1950s.

Murrow went from a widely popular and respected news hour program to a monthly interview program with Hollywood stars.
