Congressman George Latimer was joined by New Rochelle Mayor Yadira Ramos Herbert and American Legion Post 8 Commander Dennis Starr this month to present U.S. Army Colonel (Ret.) Richard Gulley with a Bronze Star Medal. Retired Colonel Gulley earned the Bronze Star for his service in Afghanistan.

“This week, our country celebrated the U.S. Army’s 250th Birthday. It is timely that today we recognize and honor the service of Retired Army Colonel Gulley, who resides in New Rochelle,” said Rep. Latimer. “Col. Gulley dedicated 30 years of his life to this nation and put himself in harm’s way to keep his fellow soldiers safe. He is what makes our country great, and I am proud to present him with this medal today.”

Gulley is a New Rochelle resident and a pilot for JetBlue. Gulley received the Bronze Star for his bravery and valor during a 2010 attack in Afghanistan by the Taliban, which resulted in an all-day firefight.

Ret. Colonel Gulley served in the Army in many parts of the world, including Europe, Africa, and Kuwait, over a 30-year career.

New Rochelle Mayor Ramos-Herbert said, “It was a privilege for the City of New Rochelle to host the Bronze Star Medal ceremony for Retired Colonel Richard Gulley. Thank you, George Latimer and your tremendous team, for the chance to honor a hometown hero!”

Congratulations, Colonel Gulley! New Rochelle and Westchester, thank you for your service and dedication.
