Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival September 28 Welcomes Laura Numeroff, Author of the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie Series

The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival (CCBF) will take place on Saturday, September 28, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Chappaqua Train Station in Chappaqua, New York. This year’s Festival will host 165 authors and illustrators and with celebrity author Laura Numeroff leading the charge. Admission and parking are free, and the event will be held rain or shine (http://www.ccbfestival.org/). This year’s festival will feature Caldecott Award Winner Vashti Harrison and National Book Award for Young People Winner Dan Santat-

In its eleventh year, the annual festival, promoting community, inclusivity, and literacy, will have a dedicated banned book section where we will display the banned books of several of our attending authors. We also will have authors covering different reading levels and multiple genres, including a large selection of graphic novels, LGTBQ themes, and books that celebrate diversity. We will have author readings and special presentations, illustrator demos, book signings, a bubble bus, and books for sale. This year, food will be available from gourmet food trucks and our local Chappaqua Farmers Market. CCBF will support literacy programs in area schools.

Some of our favorite authors returning this year include fan favorite Pinkalicious author Victoria Kann and multiple award winners Jane Yolen, Bryan Collier, Nikki Grimes and Kyle Lukoff.

We have several authors joining us this year who are new to CCBF, and we are so excited! Laura Numeroff, author of the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie Series is our headlining author; we are so excited to have her.   We are proud to welcome 2024 Caldecott Award Winner Vashti Harrison and 2023 National Book Award for Young People and Caldecott Medal Winner Dan Santat, Tracy West, Elizabeth Lim, E.B. Lewis, Winsome Bingham, Lisa Rogers and top graphic novel author of Manga, author Misako Rocks!

Our festival poster was created by popular and prolific author/illustrator Jarret Lerner, the award-winning creator of the EngiNerds series of Middle Grade novels, the Geeger the Robot series of early chapter books, the activity books Give This Book a Title and Give This Book a Cover, and The Hunger Heroes series of graphic novel chapter books.

The Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival is a grassroots, all-volunteer effort, with community members working together so children and teens can be inspired by their favorite authors. The festival gives kids and families a chance to meet and interact with the creators of their favorite characters and to appreciate that there is a real person behind the art and the words on the page.

Since its inception in 2013, the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival has grown from 65 authors to 165 and from 4,000 visitors to 10,000 from all over the tri-state region. We hope to have approximately 10,000 visitors this year.
