The Fanoos Ensemble
ArtsWestchester will celebrate the vibrant tapestry of Afghanistan’s arts and culture at its February 24 Afghanistan Arts & Culture Day, featuring the renowned Fanoos Ensemble.
This family-friendly event promises a day and evening filled with music, dance, crafts, and poetry, offering a unique opportunity to celebrate and appreciate the rich heritage of Afghanistan.
The Fanoos Ensemble, comprised of four talented Afghan musicians, brings to life the soul-stirring melodies and rhythms of Afghanistan’s musical tradition. Led by the acclaimed singer and Afghan TV star Ahmad Fanoos, the ensemble showcases a diverse repertoire ranging from traditional ghazals inspired by the poetry of Rumi to Afghan folk music and the timeless classics of Ahmad Zahir. Despite the challenges in their homeland, where music has been banned by the Taliban, the Fanoos Ensemble continues to preserve and share Afghanistan’s cultural legacy with audiences worldwide.
The day kicks off with an Arts & Culture Fair from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, offering free admission to the public. Attendees can engage in hands-on henna workshops, explore Afghanistan’s musical instruments, and delve into the intricacies of Afghan arts and crafts, weaving, traditional dress, and fashion. The highlight of the fair will be an introduction to Afghan musical instruments led by the Fanoos Ensemble from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Afghanistan Arts & Culture Day is part of the Westchester Roots program series, presented by Montefiore Einstein.
