A 26-year-old Bronx man is facing multiple charges after he fled from a traffic stop and collided with several WCPD vehicles on the Saw Mill River Parkway on Thursday night. Three officers suffered injuries as a result.
The incident began at 7:55 p.m. when an officer conducted a traffic stop for an observed equipment violation on Main Street in Mount Kisco. After initially pulling over, the driver of a Honda Accord then fled at high speed and entered the southbound Saw Mill River Parkway in an effort to elude the officer.
Other County Police officers successfully deployed spike strips and intercepted the suspect vehicle south of Marble Avenue in Thornwood. The Honda sideswiped an unmarked WCPD vehicle and then collided with other police vehicles.
Angel Bautista, 21, of East 238th Street was charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree, felonies; Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Reckless Driving, Fleeing an Officer in a Motor Vehicle and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle, misdemeanors. He was also issued multiple summonses for Vehicle & Traffic law violations.
The injured officers were treated and released from local hospitals. The accused, while in custody at police headquarters in Hawthorne, complained of pain and was evaluated there by EMS personnel.
Bautista was held overnight for arraignment in Mount Pleasant Town Court today. He was brought to the Westchester County Jail following arraignment in lieu of $5,000 bail.
