‘Billions’ Films in Yonkers

Showtime Series Continues 5th Year

By Dan Murphy

Actor Damian Lewis was recently spotted in Yonkers City Hall filming Showtime’s hit series “Billions” now in its fifth season. Lewis plays Robert “Bobby” Axelrod, the billionaire manager of hedge fund Axe Capital, and who was born and raised in Yonkers. Lewis is not from Yonkers, but from England – or Australia – but does a good job playing the kid who grew up middle-class in Yonkers and hits the big time on Wall Street, but doesn’t forget his roots, and who uses those street smarts to continue to stay ahead and keep his hedge funds clients happy.

Axelrod’s nemesis in the show is Charles “Chuck” Rhoades, the U.S. attorney who wants to take him down. Rhaodes is played by Paul Giamatti, and the two have done a great job keeping those of us who enjoy the show entertained for five years now.

If you haven’t watched “Billions,” give it a shot. You can watch the first four seasons on Showtime on Demand, with the fifth season about to start this year. Billions has filmed in Yonkers before, with Lewis at Yonkers Raceway, and now at Yonkers City Hall – most likely in the old ceremonial courthouse on the fourth or floor, where many movies have been filmed over the years and continue to do so.

“Billions” also shot part of its series near the Glenwood power station. Another movie, “The Irishman” – up for several Academy Awards – shot scenes in Yonkers and one in particular near the power station. Robert De Niro, who plays Frank Sheeran in “The Irishman,” had just shot and killed mobster Crazy Joe Gallo, and he throws the gun he uses in the Hudson River with the power station in the background.

Look for some new twists to season five of “Billions,” with Julianna Margulies and Corey Stoll joining the cast with recurring roles. Margulies plays Catherine Brant, an Ivy League sociology professor and bestselling author. Stoll plays Michael Prince, a small town businessman.

If you see filming in Yonkers, take a picture and send it to us. We enjoy sharing movie filming in Yonkers with the readers – even though the actors who are working would prefer to sneak in and out of Yonkers unnoticed.
