We have totally done that double-take walk-by moment – realizing a random street corner was featured in a show we just watched. So, it got us thinking about all the great TV filmed right here in Yonkers.
The Blacklist
Even though the show’s story was set in Washington D.C., most scenes of the show were actually filmed around New York, including Yonkers and Yonkers station. This TV series is about a notorious criminal named Raymond “Red” Reddington. Red has been on the FBI’s Most Wanted list for years, then suddenly, he surrenders with a surprising proposition: he’ll help the FBI capture other dangerous criminals, but only if he can work with a rookie FBI profiler named Elizabeth Keen.
Each episode features a new high-profile criminal on Red’s mysterious blacklist, which leads the FBI on a lot of chases and undercover operations. You can watch The Blacklist right now on Netflix, but before you stream it, make sure you have a fast and stable wireless service so you can enjoy this show.
Severance
If you like sci-fi mysteries, Severance is a great TV show to watch. It’s about the lives of officer workers of Lumon Industries who have undergone a procedure called severance. This surgery splits their memories in two: their innie, their self that exists solely within the sterile office environment without recollection of their personal life and their outie, their self that enjoys their life outside Lumon who can’t recall what happens during their work. However, things start to change when some employees started questioning what’s really happening. You can watch this show on Apple TV+.
Orange Is the New Black
Ever wondered what life is like behind bars? Orange Is the New Black takes you inside Litchfield Penitentiary, a minimum-security women’s prison, through the eyes of Piper Chapman. Piper’s a privileged woman from Brooklyn whose perfect life takes a dramatic turn when she’s sentenced to 15 months for a crime she committed a decade earlier.
Inside the prison, Piper meets a lot of different people who became her friends and foes. Orange Is the New Black is available on Netflix, but to enjoy this TV show or any other content on Netflix, it’s best to have a reputable internet connection like Dish Internet.
Madam Secretary
Madam Secretary is about a former CIA analyst turned college professor who suddenly becomes the US Secretary of State. Now that she’s back to public service, she needs to use her smarts and experience to fight global crises. This show was actually filmed in different locations around New York, which of course includes Yonkers.
Law & Oder: Special Victims Unit
Law & Order SVU is a crime drama about a special police unit in New York City. This elite squad works on difficult cases involving sexual assault and abuse. This show isn’t for everyone as there are some triggering scenes, but these detectives work tirelessly to investigate these crimes and make sure justice prevails. While the entire show isn’t centered on Yonkers, they actually filmed at Van Cortlandt Park Ave and Radford St for some episodes.
