The STEM Leadership Center, a Westchester County based nonprofit, in partnership with Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Teachers College, Columbia University, announces it is accepting applications for the 2025-2026 Regeneron STEM Teaching Fellowship, a 14-month professional development experience. The Fellowship is sponsored by Regeneron and offers full scholarships to 15 educators.
The application can be found at: stemedcenter.org/fellowship. All seventh through 12th grade STEM educators with a New York State teaching certificate are eligible to apply. The deadline is April 1, 2025.
Teachers earn nine graduate credits and a certificate in STEM Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Coursework focuses on lesson design integrating STEM across all science disciplines and features NASA-based content and resources. After successful coursework completion, Fellows are matched with a mentor scientist at Regeneron for an immersive, two-week summer research experience at Regeneron’s research and development headquarters in Tarrytown, NY.
This is the 12th year of the Fellowship, and the second year that the program is also offered in Nashville, TN, in partnership with the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network and Metro Nashville Public Schools.
Regeneron is dedicated to bolstering the entire STEM ecosystem — from budding students to seasoned educators — through programs like the STEM Teaching Fellowship, which demonstrate the transformative power of mentorship and collaboration.
“More than 100 teachers have completed the program,” said Lawrence Perretto, Executive Director, STEM Leadership Center. “That means that approximately 50,000 students from Long Island to the Hudson Valley have benefitted from being taught by a STEM Teaching Fellow.”
Last year’s Fellows included educators from Mamaroneck School District, Marlboro Central School District, East Meadow Schools, White Plains Public Schools, Rye Neck School District, Yonkers Public Schools, Eastchester School District and New York City Public Schools.
Heather Hanson, a middle school biology teacher in the Mamaroneck School District with 18 years in the classroom, began the Regeneron STEM Teaching Fellowship last spring. She said the Fellowship has been instrumental in helping her apply the Next Generation Science Standards into her classes. Hanson and her cohort will learn in Regeneron’s labs this July. “I can’t wait!” she said.
Dani Jackson, a New York State Master Teacher and chemistry teacher in Ossining Schools, completed the Regeneron STEM Teaching Fellowship in 2023. “It gave me experiences I could take back to my classroom,” she said.
NASA Endeavor Coursework
Fellows will earn a nine-credit graduate certificate in STEM education from Columbia University, in partnership with the NASA Endeavor Science Teaching Certificate Project. Coursework is delivered live online with interactive lectures. U.S. Satellite Laboratories administers the NASA Endeavor program at Teachers College. Upon completing the coursework, Fellows will receive a STEM Leadership Certificate from Teachers College, NASA Endeavor and U.S. Satellite.
Regeneron Science Mentorship
Fellows will engage in research at Regeneron’s research and development headquarters in Tarrytown where they will be assigned to research teams led by a Regeneron scientist who will serve as team leader and mentor. Mentors will engage Fellows in real time research projects in the mentor’s scientific specialty.
