The American Irish Association of Westchester County proudly announces that despite this year’s interruption of the corona virus pandemic the association held to their tradition and recently awarded their annual scholarships.
The recipient of the Mary Patricia Mannion 8th Grade Memorial Scholarship was Ryan McLaughlin. Ryan is the son of Hon. Liam and Debbie McLaughlin of Yonkers. Ryan graduated from Saint John the Baptist School, Yonkers where he is a parish alter server. Ryan expects to attend Fordham Prep School in September.
Catherine Graham is the winner of the James G. McGinty College Memorial Scholarship. Catherine attended Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park and will be attending Indiana University studying Secondary Education and hopes to be a Biology Teacher. She is the granddaughter of Mary Keehan who serves as financial secretary for the American Irish Association.
Keira Accostupa was awarded the annual dance scholarship. She is the daughter of Margaret Accostupa and granddaughter of long time member of the AIA Kenny O’Brien.
The American Irish Association of Westchester has been in existence for over forty years and celebrates and preserves Irish heritage and culture in Westchester County. Joe Smith a vice president of the association serves as chairman of the Scholarship Committee and was assisted this year by Bob Stauf also a vice president and Mary Hoar a board member. Carol M. Daly is the president and Cathy Marshall serves as the chair of the board of directors of the association.
