SHP chapter President Matt Ambrogi, Tuckahoe Eastchester Lions President David Zimmerman, New Rochelle Lions President Mary McDonnell, Larchmont Mamaroneck Lion Diane Oldham

On Saturday, March 27 at New Rochelle’s D’Onofrio Park, members of the Larchmont Mamaroneck, New Rochelle & Tuckahoe Eastchester Lions joined with other community volunteers to build kids beds for Sleep In Heavenly Peace.
The construction volunteers, including local police officers and County Legislator Terry Clements, built 34 kids bunk beds. They will be combined with a mattress, sheets, pillow, comforter and blanket and delivered for free to children in homes in need in our community. The volunteers also included the New Rochelle Police department, New Rochelle Pride and HOPE community.

Breakfast and lunch for the workers was provided by the New Rochelle Lions.  Westchester Channel 12 was also there to cover the day’s event.

Sleep In Heavenly Peace is an international charity, founded 9 years ago by Luke Mickelson in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Its mission is to build beds for the thousands of bed-less disadvantaged children.  It has built over 20,000 beds and has expanded to 260 local community chapters, in 4 countries. This event was hosted by their Rye Chapter, headed by Matt Ambrogi. Organizers from SHP chapters from Idaho Falls and Syracuse NY were there to provide their construction know how.
