Yonkers Public Schools Assesses 4 Day In Person Learning Starting April 5

“Since Yonkers Public Schools welcomed students back to school buildings in October, the only large city in the state ready and able to begin Hybrid Instruction, our work has been focused on safely expanding in-person instruction for students.  No one wants children back in school more than our administrators, teachers, staff and Trustees.  Returning to more in-person instruction will put our students’ academic, social-emotional, nutritional, physical health and well-being back on track,” stated Dr. Edwin M. Quezada, Superintendent of Schools.

“The Trustees and Dr. Quezada have been public and transparent about the millions of dollars being spent solely to have our students in class with their teachers, noted Board of Education President Rev. Steve Lopez. “Yonkers Public Schools 91% graduation rate in 2020 is a beacon for what our students can accomplish with the support, encouragement, commitment and work of our outstanding educators and support staff.”

Throughout the week of March 1, Dr. Quezada directed his Central Office team to begin planning for four days of in-person instruction for current Hybrid students.  Two meetings where held with the District’s bargaining unit leaderships and the Yonkers Council of PTA/PTSA (YCPTA) to discuss options.  “Everyone affirmed this must be accomplished with the health and safety of students and staff foremost in every decision, added Dr. Quezada.  “This included consensus that we must continue to rigorously follow all current CDC and County Department of Health guidance.”

Monday, April 5 would follow Easter Sunday, April 4, and the last day of Passover, also April 4.
