Yonkers Student Athlete Fighting Cancer

Needs Your Vote for Giants Hero Award

Meet Vincent Schaub, a students at Saunders High School in Yonkers, and a member of the Yonkers Brave high school football team. Last year, Vincent was diagnosed with brain cancer, and has been fighting ever since.
Every year, USA Football and the NY Giants hold a Heart of a Giant contest where the public votes on 19 nominees. Vincet is one of this year’s 2020 Heart of a Giant Award Nominees, and his friends and supporters in Yonkers are asking you to go and vote for him at –

Vincent answered a few questions about his life for the award nomination. “Dedication defines having the “Heart of a Giant” because I believe that dedication falls in the criteria of all five. I am dedicated to football because I constantly think of how I could better myself to be better in game. I put the same effort into practices as I do into games which is of course, one hundred and ten percent.

“I faced adversity my freshman year. I was confident but did not know how I would fit in with my new teammates. it took a couple of weeks of not knowing a single person and being an “outsider” but then my teammates and I started to bond very well and they turned into my family. They especially feel like family now since they are always there for me as well as I am for them like playing a huge part in my battle with brain cancer.

“I enjoy EVERYTHING about football. I am very competitive so playing football at the top of my game is something I enjoy. when I get out on the field I feel that no one could stop me. I feel like I am able to be myself when playing football and love to defy the odds.

“I enjoy hanging out with my friends and spending time with my family. I like to play video games like NBA 2k and Madden football. I also like to play a various amount of sports off the field like basketball and baseball.”

Vincent’s family have also set up a gofundme page to help with the medical bills. The link is https://www.gofundme.com/f/hope-for-vincent.

Keep fighting Vincent, and we hope to watch you playing football for the Yonkers Brave soon. God Bless!
