Three-month investigation conducted with the Peekskill Police Department
Three Peekskill men were arrested on Thursday following a three-month investigation led by the Westchester County Police Narcotics Unit, with assistance from the Peekskill Police Department Detective Division. The investigation focused on suspected narcotics activity at the Dunbar Heights complex in the City of Peekskill.
The investigation culminated Thursday in the execution of a search warrant at a residence on Highland Avenue in Peekskill. Seized were approximately six ounces of cocaine, 34 grams of oxycodone, numerous rounds of ammunition and drug paraphernalia, including scales and packaging materials.
Omar Travis, 59, and Rodney Jones, 57, of Highland Avenue were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree (Intent to Sell), felonies. Kristopher Gaffney, 57, also of Highland Avenue, was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a felony.
Two of the suspects were arraigned in Peekskill City Court. Travis was remanded to the Westchester County Jail and Jones was released on his own recognizance. Gaffney was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in the Peekskill City Court on Nov. 5.
Public Safety Commissioner Terrance Raynor said, “The Westchester County Department of Public Safety remains committed to aggressively targeting illegal narcotics activity through coordinated law enforcement efforts and continued partnerships with local and federal agencies. We are grateful to the Peekskill Police Department for its collaboration in this investigation.”
A criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and defendants should be presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.
