Kensico Cemetery 5K Draws 241 Participants and Raises for Historic & Cultural Preservation

The annual run/walk benefits a new fund of The New York Community Trust protecting the county’s historic places, spaces, stories, and traditions.

October 26, 2026: A total of 241 community members took part in the annual Kensico Cemetery 5K Run/Walk on October 25, raising $25,000 for the Westchester Fund for Historic and Cultural Preservation. The fund supports organizations safeguarding the places, spaces, stories, and traditions that make Westchester County distinctive.

Hosted by Friends of The Kensico Cemetery, the event offered a 5K race and 1.7-mile walk across the cemetery and arboretum’s 460 acres, followed by breakfast, awards, and raffle prizes.

“At this year’s 5K, we weren’t just running and walking through history—we were helping to protect it,” said Matthew G. Parisi, president of Kensico Cemetery and Friends. “We are grateful to every participant and proud to partner with The New York Community Trust to create a lasting impact.”

Established at The New York Community Trust, the Westchester Fund for Historic and Cultural Preservation pools contributions and awards grants to local organizations preserving, protecting, and celebrating historic sites and cultural resources.

“When we see a local challenge or an opportunity that deserves attention, The Trust can bring people together and turn generosity into action,” said Laura Rossi, vice president of The New York Community Trust in Westchester. “As our country marks its 250th anniversary, this is a powerful moment to decide what we will protect for the next generation. Westchester’s history and culture are alive, shared, and
worth carrying forward.”
